Select Medical -- The Controller's Paper Reduction Act: How Document Management Helped
Introduction
With over 700 facilities and 30,000 invoices per month, Select Medical Corporation needed to automate manual, inefficient and costly paper-based processes. This presentation will explain how document management technology and a shared service center model reduced costs and increased visibility into the organization's activities. We will describe the benefits realized and the journey we took to get to those benefits.
Our Oracle Experience
Select Medical has been an Oracle shop for HR/Payroll since 1998. When the decision was made to move to an enterprise financials solution, Oracle of course became a prime candidate for the project. We wanted an integrated system as well as a solution that could provide additional complementary products / modules to add savings moving forward. We were also looking to build upon our existing IT experience and leverage the same base technology. The Oracle financials solution gave us a reputable full-scale ERP solution to help us prepare for and execute our IPO and provides the foundation for continued growth.
In January 2001, we went live on Oracle 11i Financials as well as Internet Expenses. All this, coupled with an upgrade of HR/Payroll from 10.7 directly to 11i, took approximately 5 months. It was not an easy transition, but the outcome was a success and we now run seven Oracle modules: Human Resources, Advanced Benefits, Payroll, General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Cash Management and Internet Expenses. We also anticipate the implementation of Accounts Receivable and Fixed Assets in the near future.
